We’re working on the May/June issue of ACC this week, and for this issue’s Reader’s Forum, we’re looking for your comments on your best-ever car buys. There’s still time to be included!
I tend to think of my best car buy as the next one I’m going to buy, but it doesn’t usually work out that way. If I had to pick one car, it would be the 2001 Camaro SS I bought for $18,500 back in 2007 or so. I could have gotten a cheaper example — I knew I was paying too much when I bought it — but the car had low miles and was in great shape. And I had to have one with a 6-speed, which this car was. It’s pictured above, sitting next to the 1963 Corvette Split-Window we owned back in the days of Corvette Market.
In the end, I lost money on it, but it never gave me any trouble at all in the years it served as my daily driver. It was fun, fast, and clean — and I don’t think I’ll ever have a car that sounds better — Edelbrock’s cat-back system, which was only available for a couple of years, gave that car a deep rumble I still miss.
Share your best buys in the comments below — and if you’re quick, you might see them in the next issue of ACC!
