Spyker will unveil its new F1 car in L.A.
Zeewolde, the Netherlands, Los Angeles, USA, 29 November 2006 — Spyker Cars, the Dutch manufacturer of highly exclusive hand built super cars, is displaying its Formula One race car M16 at the LA Auto Show. It is the first time ever that Spyker is displaying this car at an auto show. Furthermore Spyker is displaying four of its road models: the Spyker C8 Spyder, the Spyker C8 Laviolette, the Spyker C12 LaTurbie and its newest model: the Spyker D12 Peking-to-Paris. Spyker Cars is present for the third consecutive time at the LA Auto Show, Los Angeles, USA, from 29 November – 10 December 2006 (Concourse Hall).
Victor Muller, CEO Spyker Cars, says: “These are exciting times for Spyker. We completed the acquisition of the Midland F1 Racing Formula One team in September, an absolute milestone for our 6-year old company. The team is now called Spyker MF1 Team. The Formula One arena is an unparalleled way to both underline our commitment to racing and to benefit from a massive increase in brand awareness around the globe. We expect our road cars will also benefit from the professional F1 technical knowledge we now have at our disposition.
I am very proud to show our F1 race car to the visitors of this important show. On September 30 last, we signed a three year engine supply agreement with Ferrari for the 2007-2009 seasons and on November 1st last Mike Gascoyne joined us as Spyker MF1 Team’s Chief Technology Officer. Spykers are much in demand in North America which is by far our most important market. Therefore we are still expanding our coast-to-coast dealer network. For the first time ever we are now hosting an extensive road show with Ride & Drive events, visiting all our North American dealers with several
beautiful Spyker C8 Spyders and the D12.”
Muller continues: “I am also proud to present our first four-door, four-seater luxury super sports utility vehicle, the Spyker D12 Peking-to-Paris, at the LA Auto Show. Spyker is the first in the supercar market to introduce such a car. The reaction of the media, the public and our clients to this new model has been astounding and exceeded even our
expectations. We expect a lot from it here in the USA as it is an ideal car for this country. Of course, Spyker also remains fully committed to its GT2 program and will enter a two-car line-up for the 2007 12-Hours of Sebring (March 2007), 24-Hours of Le Mans, Le Mans Series and selected FIA GT races.”
On February 28th of this year Spyker first introduced its first Super Sports Utility Vehicle (SSUV), the Spyker D12 Peking-to-Paris, to the world at the Geneva Motor Show. The unique qualities and design features of Spyker’s first SSUV are directly linked with the noble racing and aviation heritage of the company. The Spyker D12 Peking-to-Paris takes its name from the famous Spyker that finished second in the most gruelling race of all time, the 1907 Peking-to-Paris.
The Spyker D12 Peking-to-Paris is an all aluminum, permanent four-wheel drive super sports utility vehicle. The doors are rear-hinged coach doors, so-called ‘suicide doors’. It is powered by the 6.0 litre, 12 cylinder, 500 bhp W12 engine from Volkswagen AG and accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5.0
seconds. The six-speed automatic transmission features a multifunctional steering wheel with F1 style shift paddles, a triple dashboard designed in the style of an airplane cockpit, and a sumptuous interior. The D12 is Spyker’s first four-door, four-seater luxury vehicle. The car is the ultimate combination of a powerful super sports car with exotic looks, a spacious multiple passenger interior and luxurious cabin as well as the
exquisite Spyker signature cockpit interior. Expected date of introduction is December 2007. The expected USA retail price is USD 287,500 ex tax.
The Spyker C8 Spyder (convertible) and the Spyker C8 Laviolette (coupe) both have an all aluminum Audi V8 engine, a power output of 400 Bhp and a torque of 480 Nm. Both cars are fully US certified. USA retail prices for the C8 Spyder start at USD 269,995 ex tax. USA retail prices for the C8 Laviolette start at USD 292,500 ex tax.
The Spyker C8 Laviolette was the first Spyker to obtain a key role in a major movie production: it was featured in Basic Instinct 2 (released in 2006) driven by Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone). Spyker will produce a unique Limited Edition of 25 C8 Laviolettes. These cars have the identical
features of the original movie car (chassis number 015).
The 400 horsepower Spyker C8 Spyder is not only an award winning car; it is also becoming a celebrity on its own. A silver Spyker C8 Spyder will star along side of the international movie stars Jet Li and Jason Statham in
their upcoming action thriller ROGUE. The USA release is scheduled for February 2007. In this movie, the Spyder will driven in the movie by Jet Li. The 500 horsepower Spyker C12 LaTurbie has a supporting role in ROGUE. Spyker’s role in ROGUE is a direct result of the January 2006 LA Auto Show.
The director of the movie, Philip Attwell, noticed the cars during the LA Auto Show and decided on the spot that he absolutely wanted Spyker for ROGUE.
In July 2006 Olympic Legend and car nut Carl Lewis drove a Spyker C8 Spyder during the supercar classic coast-to-coast Bull Run 2006 rally. A Spyker C8 Spyder also had a stationary role in the most recent Pink Panther movie
(released in 2006) starring Steve Martin. The car was featured by Robb Report in its Ultimate Gift Guide (December 2005).
The Spyker C12 LaTurbie was first unveiled during the Geneva Car Show in March 2005. This car will be the first Spyker to run the extremely powerful 6.0 litre Audi W12 dry sump aluminum engine. This car has a power output of 500 BHP and a gigantic torque of 600 NM. Top speed is 202 mph with an
acceleration of 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds. An F1 style paddle shift is under development. The C12 LaTurbie is fitted with Spyker’s in-house designed 19″ AerobladeT wheels as standard. Further specifications include rear wheel
drive with Drexler limited slip differential, ABS and a light weight aluminum space frame with integrated roll cage. The double twin exhausts make the overwhelming signature Spyker sound. USA retail prices, including glass hard top, start at USD 345,625 ex tax.
Optional features for all cars include a turned aluminium dashboard fascia, elegant 19″ AerobladeT wheels in magnesium featuring five propellers, several leather options such quilted seat belt covers and Chronoswiss dashboard instruments.
