My son Bradley’s 1982 Collector’s Edition Chevrolet Corvette is going to a new home. It’s being listed on Doug DeMuro’s Cars & Bids site, with an aggressive reserve. The auction can be found here.

Our restoration guru Chip Starr found this car for us at just about the same time as Bradley’s 16th birthday. He took and passed his driving test and we bought the car.

The Corvette was appealing. It appeared to have all original paint and interior, 97,000 documented miles, and receipts going back into the ’80s. The quantity of receipts indicated that attention was lavished on this car.

An advantage for me was that the rear hatch opens on the CE, which allowed me to get my mobility scooter into it.

We had a new alternator installed and the A/C recharged. Everything works and the car is easy to drive, especially with its 4-speed automatic. (It also has a limited slip differential.) It comes with both its translucent hardtops as well.

We have a replica of the original window sticker; the only thing missing is the factory CB radio. The cassette deck doesn’t always play properly.

Bradley installed new shocks. He’s put about 1,500 miles on it.

To tell you the truth, I bought the car for two reasons. First, it was a handsome, solid example. Second, I wanted Bradley to be able to tell the story that when he turned 16 his dad bought him a Corvette. Maybe not the fastest or most exotic one, but a Corvette, nonetheless.

He’s taken it to several Cars and Coffees and cruise-ins, and showed it in the exhibition class at the Forest Grove Concours.

He enjoys the car, but as he will be heading off to college in few months, we are thinning the herd.

    Great pictures!!

  2. Keith,

Sad to see this go, I have enjoyed living through you with the stories shared.

We just had a in-depth discussion with my friends new Son-in-Law, that I believe he is getting a interest because the rest of us lives revolve around revolving wheels.

Well, we had all agreed that a later model C-3 is a perfect fit for him to get into the hobby.

As sad as I am to see it go, I will be sharing the link with him on this.

All my best for a successful sale.

  3. Funny, I came across a bugeye for sale on another site today. I remember the sound reasons for selling “Bradley’s” bugeye before he was old enough to drive it and they remain sound. But sound reasons could be raised for choosing it over a Corvette, such as the stories my friends tell of helping me lift my own bugeye onto the sidewalk when it broke down. I hope the sale of the Corvette goes well- I expect it will.

Variety is the spice of life and different people like and choose different cars. I hope his next car brings Bradley new adventures.
